Balance Transfer from Ireland

Hello

I recently moved from Ireland (Republic of) to the UK and am struggling to find a UK Credit Card provider who offers balance transfers from my Irish credit card to the UK.

If anyone can find me a UK Credit Card provider who does balance transfers from Ireland I will apply for that card.

I'm surprised you can't do it; I did it the other way back in 2000 when I moved back to Ireland from the UK.

Help!!!

baz

You'll need a card which offers 0% "money transfers" (ie cash into your current account), as opposed to "balance transfers", and then take the hit on the currency exchange (as well as a circa 2-4% money transfer fee).

Suggest you look at MBNA and Virgin products.

You can use “Post Office Money” Credit Cards are provided by Bank of Ireland UK.
Do you know this or just assume that as it's Bank of Ireland UK, they do BTs from Irish cards?

Bank of Ireland UK do not do balance transfers from abroad including Southern Ireland.

Can you explain a little more on the money transfer instead of balance transfer? I called Virgin Credit cards, they did indeed offer "0% on money transfers for 36 months" but when I asked them they said they couldn't transfer any balance from a Republic of Ireland credit card. Does a "money transfer" work differently from a "balance transfer"? I dunno maybe I'm asking the questions of them incorrectly ...

A money transfer is simply a transfer of cash from the Virgin card to your UK bank account. It really is as simple as that. Indeed, summed up in one sentence on the Virgin website...
Pay money into your current account from your credit card to pay off other debt you may have elsewhere.

An alternative, a bit messy and will cost more in fees, is to take out two cards - draw cash on one to clear your Irish card and then do a BT to it from the other.

Finally - having been in ROI for some time you may not have a current UK credit history which might make getting a good 0% deal difficult.
