Email Payslips

Hi our company are introducing email payslips however they are saying it's not optional and you must provide an email and if you don't have an email they will force you into setting one up.

Can they do this?

Thanks.

I'd be surprised if they can. There is no legal requirement for anybody to have a computer and e-mail access. If you have e-mail at work, use that address :-)

What is your objection to providing an email address?

setup one specifically for the payslips.. then do a redirect to your normal one (if you have)
breathe in, breathe out- You're alive! Everything else is a bonus, right? RIGHT??
  • They don't/won't allow the work one. I'm happy with one. But others are refusing and the company are saying it's tough!

Others should learn to pick their battles ;)

Seems odd to object, I would just tell the staff we are implementing this to improve efficiency and save money, if you don't like it you know where the door is.

As you know, the law requires employers to provide payslips when or before payments are received. So it is for them to provide payslips, not for the employees to provide email addresses to which they can be sent.

What happens at present? Are payslips issued on site or are they sent by snail-mail?

Whatever the answers to those questions, I agree with tomtontom that they need to pick their battles - and this doesn't appear to be a good one to get exercised about.

That's interesting that they will not allow you to use the work's email address.

I was going to ask specifically about that.

You see normal email is not secure (unless encrypted) and so should not be used for the transmission of sensitive material, particularly of a financial nature.

As they have also now taken the approach of "its tough", probably time to involve your union ;)

In general terms, you should do as your told if what you are being asked to do is part of your terms & conditions of employment (and is reasonable)

As you don't obviously care about who may see your personal & private information, you may as well send yourself your payslip that way.

(see others comments about choosing your battles)

As regards to those who are concerned about the directions you have been asked to pass on, I would suggest that anyone who has any issues should take them up with the organ grinder. ;)
(via their union would seem appropriate considering the hostility that appears to be coming from said organ grinder)
