While the locals are very friendly there is a darker side to the sun,sea and palm trees idyll and drugs are a real problem.
I just picked up on your post. Whilst any person, anywhere in the world should always be attentive, the island of Grenada is way down on the list apropos instances such as you describe. Scaremongering when you haven't any first hand experience is wrong.0 -

Can't wait!!
Just as an aside, Coyaba and most of Grenada use UK plugs, don't buy adaptors. They drive on the correct side of the road too. If you find time, walk the entire length of Grand Anse beach, it is really beautiful.0 -

I have a great deal of experience of the Caribbean and in particular the island of Grenada.
But I'll leave it to the Foreign Office to provide similar advice to that which I gave the OP and which she was happy to receive.
" Most visits are trouble-free, but there have been incidents of violent crime including armed robbery and sexual assault.
You should maintain at least the same level of personal security awareness as you would in the UK and make sure your accommodation is secure. This also applies if you are staying on a yacht. Be vigilant at all times. Take care when walking alone off the busy main roads and avoid isolated areas, including beaches, particularly after dark. "0
