Investments for Children

My child's kindly God Parent is already investing a regular amount into our CTF. As a 5th birthday present he would like to invest a small lump sum ~£500 and maybe switch those regular payments to something new. Are there any options better options available than CTF? He would prefer my child to not have access to the funds till he was 16+.

You are aware that the CTF can be switched to the more flexible JISA? See
https://www.gov.uk/junior-individual-savings-accounts/overview
The JISA cannot be accessed until the child is 18.
This would allow a wide choice of OEICS/Investment Trusts etc.
