Unclear parking sign

Hi,
We just received a parking penalty through the post from Euro Car Parks. I had parked in a car park (in my wife's car) in a car park which from a glance at the sign, I thought was free from 6pm.
There is a fairly small sign by the entrance with lots of small writing, and I was looking for the bit mentioning times and read the following at the top of the sign:
MONDAY TO FRIDAY
DAY TARIFF AVAILABLE 0700 - 1759
Which I took as meaning parking was free after 6pm.
Having seen that I didn't read the rest of the sign which included the following towards the bottom:
1800 - 0659 MON TO SAT - £1
Here's a link to a photo of the sign: https://www.dropbox.com/s/utmxzccp0qr6rrt/2015-05-06%2020.42.47.jpg?dl=0
Does this sound like reasonable grounds to appeal the ticket? It was a genuine mistake on our side, which wouldn't had happened if their sign was clearer. Or is that a route doomed to fail, and we should just send the standard template letter in the newbies thread?
Thanks
Pete

Have you read the Sticky thread for NEWBIES at the top of the page? You should use ALL the appeal points therein, one of which will be inadequate signage.I married my cousin. I had to...I don't have a sister.

You complain about unclear signage, and then make up words like parking "penalty", which I am sure they didn't use. Clarity and precision are needed on both sides.0

Now I am not going to do your leg work, but you need to compare the wording of the sign with (a) the BPA CoP and (b) POFA . You can find them both here http://www.britishparking.co.uk/write/Documents/AOS/AOS_Code_of_Practice_-_V4,_Feb_2014.pdf0
