Customs Charges On Items From Abroad

Hi
WARNING: Be very careful if you buy from abroad. I bought some V.smile items on Ebay from the USA and have been landed with £27 customs charges + £13.50 extra delivery from Parcelforce just to get them delivered and I had paid delivery charges to the Seller!!

I'm guessing then that you didn't know items over £18 and not bought from the EU are subject to VAT and admin charges?0

The joys of buying abroad. Royal Mail charge a customs clearance fee of £8 now and obviously Pracelforce charge £13.50. As previous poster noted VAT is chargeable on all items bought overseas over £18 and in some cases you will also have to pay import tax (usually a small percentage).
If buying abroad I will sometimes break down parcels so the value falls below the £18.0
