Can I ask a silly FTB question...?

Mortgage now all approved so finances ready to go, my solicitor has said that they have received all vendor's paperwork (contract/deeds/fixtures and fittings).

So..... is it just my solicitor 'searches' that now determine the timescale?

Totally chain free so it's just between me and the vendor. Offer accepted on 24 April, mortgage offer received 30 April, so things going smoothly so far. (touch wood)

I'm being driven slightly mad by all the stuff that happens that is out of my control and waiting for decisions/next steps - I appreciate that this sale seems quick but it has taken a few false starts to get to this point!

In terms of the final hurdle, I'm also not sure what stance to take. I am staying with friends and do not need to move out by a certain date, I am torn between letting things happen without me chasing up with the thought of an extra month mortgage free (and obviously then spending on decorating:)) and driving forward really quickly so I can get the keys (naturally an impatient person!!)

I have half term off at the end of May, if I thought I'd have keys by then and be able to spend the week pottering around new place I would definitely push forward but the time immediately after is really busy at work and I would not be able to do anything.

Argh, it's wish I had a crystal ball time!!

Also, any advice on whether I actually have any control/impact at this stage of the game is greatly received!!:D

End of May sounds perfectly doable, but make sure both your solicitor and your vendors know your preferred Completion date.

There are no guarantees, but if you don't make your wishes clear they won't be fulfilled for sure!

Have a chat with your solicitor, they can tell you what is still outstanding and likely timescales. They are usually quite useful, if you just call for a chat or email any questions. Sometimes people are scared to bother them and leave it all to them as a professional, forgetting that the solicitor is actually working FOR YOU!
