Conservatory with tiled roof or Living Roof

Hello,

We have a conservatory which we want to replace but use the existing base.

We have had a look around and we've decided we'd like the conservatory replacing and a tiled roof or something similar.
We've come across a product through Ultraframe called Livin' Roof.
It is basically a composite 'look a like' tiled roof which slots on top of a conservatory roof and is plasterboarded inside to give the impression of an extension inside.
We contacted them for a quote and got a saleman from the company direct who quoted.....for a replacement conservatory (no building work) and a livin' roof of £18K!!!
I'm gobsmacked at the cost as I thought it would be fairly reasonable.
Does anyone have this product? Is this the 'going rate' or am I being taken for a ride?
Can anyone recommend something similar?

    I don't know about £18k, but they aren't cheap

Considering most conservatories cost £5-12k anyway, you're looking at somewhere between £6 and £13k extra for the roof.

The roof is a lot more substantial than a typical glass roof for a conservatory (which is basically just a frame and glass), and includes the actual roof, plus insulation and internal paneling.

I couldn't really comment on £18k, but you need to take into account that you're buying a premium version of the product, it will cost more.

Have you had any quotes for the conservatory only with a tiled or glass roof, for comparison?

Ultraframe are a profitable company who retain this position by inventing the latest "must have" home improvement products. This comes at a price. I do not have any axe to grind with this, but would add that the customer support from Ultraframe stinks. Ultraframe exist to protect their often dodgy trade customers and sales teams. The end user, that is the consumer, plays second fiddle to these trade people. Hence, there is a risk with buying an Ultraframe product.

In technical terms the range of roofs are fine, but I would not touch one of their Living Roofs with a bargepole. I believe they are questionable with regards to legality, and with regards to the Building Regulations. I also believe that they represent poor value for money.

If people want a tiled roof it is bizarre that they choose a conservatory to base it on. The reason that conservatories exist is: firstly to provide a glass roof to maximize light and give a clear view to the sky, and secondly, to provide a low cost, low quality, and short life alternative to a sun room.
