Hi, 2 queries:

1. I am a student who has been awarded a £1000 high grades bonus, I would like to put this money towards a car later this year.

2. My mum has recently inherited around £15,000 and would like to put a sizeable amount of this in a savings account With high interest and degree of access control.

Any advice for both? Thanks

Suggestion for 2nd question...Your mum could check out the smaller reliable banks like Shawbrook or Aldermore for savings accounts, or, of course, the Santander 123, paying 3% interest on amounts between 3,000 and 20k.

Your mum might like to look at interest paying current accounts rather than savings accounts.

Igf, I'm sure you realise that the Santander 123 is an interest paying current account - just one of many, as xylophone indicates above. Well done, by the way, for the High Grades bonus...your age may make a difference to which account would be best for you to save for your car (I assumed if you were putting the money towards a car you were already qualified to drive; apologies).
