    I got a letter from my bank about a credit card that I had not used for a while: if I did not use it by the deadline, it could be cancelled. I used it to buy something to keep it open.

    I got m/s as a backup.0.5% is better than nothing.wife uses m/s a lot, she can have c/b or vouchers there 1%, and get her tea/cake there with them.etc probably she will still use amex there.
    I have never had any cb on hsbc, or, any benefits,in 20 years of having it, except when I was in the Premier a/c, never used it since.was my first cc.
    may close it, but, after capone, too many at once doesn't look good, although . I aint bothered about credit rating, at my age,I only use cards for cashback.
    use amex all the time, but, occasionally have to use backup.
    fingers crossed, you get let off;) or, even 0.5%.

    0.5% isn't enough for me, to be honest. i would be more inclined not to bother with a backup, and use a debit card for the odd purchase that won't take Amex.
    i've recently opened an M&S Current Account, though. you've made me think there...isn't there a 'free cup of tea' or something along those lines, or am i out of date? the M&S that is walking distance from me is very good...as i rediscovered going in there to spend Giftcards;)

    I'm looking to open a bank A/c with them, as they have a 6%regular savings scheme, same as Hsbc,( which I have,) so it slots together well.Don't know about free cuppa?Had to write to Boland last year, couldn't get a cup of hot water for daughter, doesn't drink tea/coffee, ( pay) without a pot of tea,said she could use wifes tea bag. accused of cheating, in London flagship store. They sent £10 voucher,and apologised.EDITED;
    Leave that to OH I just get the CC's .I do anything but shop.Wife will shop for England She's off to M&S now, there yesterday. probably take todays ,back tomorrow.:rotfl:

    and yes, the 6%RegSav is a good rate. i have the HSBC-version too. don't reckon i'll bother though. will probably transfer this account elsewhere for another incentive.:lovethoug

    and back onto topic.... yes, overall, i would say that unless there is a good reason to retain a credit card, i would close it :)
