Early Retirement....First Week

A lot of people seem to like them, except those who dont lol
I am not working at the mo, and a zero hours would suit me just fine.0 -
I didn't really understand zero hours contracts, until I was offered one......all I am doing is continuing in my old job, but with vastly reduced hours, which is just what I wanted.......for those with no other income, then zero hours are not so good......but a lot DO like them..........Jack.Retired (Early) April 20150

Zero hours are OK to great for those who don't want to work much because they have other income. Where they are a problem is when someone is relying on one or more of them to support themselves and ends up with no security of income.0

Absolutely agree, Since switching to zero hours I have heard both sides of the discussion......some love them, others hate them, and rightly so......I know people who have to be at work at 6.am, only to be told ''sorry nothing for you today'' and that is blatantly wrong.......on the other hand, for such as me it is ideal, as I don't have to rely on it........I suppose that I am in quite a good position, makes a change.................Jack.Retired (Early) April 20150

I too retired recently and won't get SP for another three and a half years. I got BR tax letter through and phoned them up to tell them I would not be working in the future so they said the necessary adjustments would be made, Now got the letter to say it has been done so no tax for me.
I retired on 30th of April so have paid one months tax, as my total income for the year will only be 1,200 from that wage and about 5 1/2 thousand from FS pension do I get a rebate on tax paid on that last months salary? Do I have to do anything of do they rebate automatically at end of tax year?
Loving retirement even though I had a knee replacement done a month ago so actually finished work while on sick leave as I had already put in for retirement on 30th some months ago before knee problem became a bit drastic.
I will feel the benefit soon and be able to get out there gardening, as yet not having any trouble filling my days and have caught up with a few childhood friends.0 -

So what does the letter say about your new tax code?I retired on 30th of April so have paid one months tax, as my total income for the year will only be 1,200 from that wage and about 5 1/2 thousand from FS pension do I get a rebate on tax paid on that last months salary? If the new tax code for your pension is a cumulative tax code which takes into account your earnings for the first month, then you will automatically get the tax back the first time the new tax code is used.0 -
I think visiting the local tax office is a thing of the past.
Why? Mine is on my cycle to work, so pretty convenient.
I once even popped in to pay a £2k+ tax bill in cash, but boy was that a mistake! Loads of stupid questions when you're actually *paying* tax to go with the ones when you're legally avoiding it.I am not a financial adviser and neither do I play one on television. I might occasionally give bad advice but at least it's free.
Like all religions, the Faith of the Invisible Pink Unicorns is based upon both logic and faith. We have faith that they are pink; we logically know that they are invisible because we can't see them.0 -

Perhaps your area is different. I'm about 5 minutes away from Centre 1. It used to be that you could make an appointment to see someone there and go over everything.
Last time I went there I was simply invited to use their phone to phone the same place I could have done from home.0 -
