Early Retirement....First Week
Comments
-
I retired at the end of March last year. Had to contact HMRC to inform them of my changed status. They had issued a Notice of Coding for the next tax year as if I was still employed. I had a company car which was taxed which obviously I wouldn’t have in retirement. So it rather depends on individual circumstances as whether a change of tax code is required.0

Apologies Jem, I wasn't very clear on the facts.......one thing, would You advise visiting my local tax office ?......or better to contact HMRC by 'phone ?.......I know that HMRC ''moves in mysterious ways''.......when my Mrs. sorted her pension out, although her records were in Scotland, it was dealt with at Leicester !!.....my tax used to be dealt with at Scarborough, North Yorks.....but not sure where it is dealt with now.........Jack.Retired (Early) April 20150

I think visiting the local tax office is a thing of the past.I know that HMRC ''moves in mysterious ways''.......when my Mrs. sorted her pension out, although her records were in Scotland, it was dealt with at Leicester !!.....my tax used to be dealt with at Scarborough, North Yorks.....but not sure where it is dealt with now.........Jack.
It's all dealt with centrally now.

Received a letter today (14th) from pension provider, saying that they have notified HMRC of my circumstances, and that HMRC will contact me shortly.......apparently they need 4 weeks to obtain my records.......would it be advisable to still ring HMRC myself, or just let things run their course ?............Jack.Retired (Early) April 20150
