'Signed for' parcel just be returned to me .. Who pays to resend it

I sold an item on 11 April and sent it off immediately, using Royal Mail's 'Signed for' service as was indicated on the ebay listing.

It went to the address showing on Paypal, as well as showing on Ebay.

Now today the parcel has been returned to me, as the buyer did not collect the parcel.

I'll contact the buyer and see what he says ... hopefully he'll just say "Send again" and will send me through Paypal another £4

However, he might not say that and demand that I send it again at my expense.

What's the correct proceduer in this type of case ?

thank you

If the customer does not play ball, you'll need to pay to ship it again.

It's also worth checking why he didn't collect. If it was a fault of Royal Mail, ie they never left a calling card, then they should be the ones who pay.

Yes, that's what I'm afraid of.

I've sent a message to the buyer and politely asked if he was willing to help with the postage. Still waiting for his reply

If this is the case, how would I go about getting Royal mail to pay again ... at my local Post office, or at Head Office

More to the point. How do you propose proving it?

You can't prove it one way or another obviously but I'd hope RM have a sensible way of dealing with it. I know it isn't a common occurrence but it does happen.

If you ask them nicely your local PO or RM depot may send it again as is.
    As happened to me yesterday.

I've no idea. It would surely depend on how often it happened and if, financially, it was worth them investigating or just issuing a refund or paying to send it back.

    OP here

Buyer agreed to pay for a second delivery

So that was a great result. Good buyer too. he just didn't have time to collect it, then forgot all about it.
