For a flavour of the place, it is worth watching the film "In Bruges"

    It really a cracking movie

  • Ghent is approx 30 mins by train from Bruges. Bruges is really nice but I loved Ghent too, there's a nice castle and some lovely cathedrals to visit in Ghent, def worth a day trip.

I also went by Eurostar which was great, easy to do on your own, you just need to change trains in Brussels (same station).

Looking to go to Bruges 20th - 24th July for a special Birthday. want to go by Eurostar as not keen on flying. Am I best booking a package or doing it separately? Any recommendations of best sites/companies to book through. Would like to be fairly central so was wondering if anyone had any experience of nice hotels they have stayed at, would ideally like breakfast included or not opposed to nice self catering accommodation.
Any other hints and tips and ideas what to do/see would be really appreciated. Thanks

I booked travel and hotel with Eurostar about 5 years ago and it was fine. I stayed in an IBIS hotel right in the centre (walking distance from attractions) and it was fine. I think I booked it via the Eurostar website
  • We have stayed here a couple of times and it is AMAZING! http://www.hoteltuilerieen.com/

The guys who were in the film in bruges stayed there and their signed photos are up in the "smoking" room (which you cannot smoke in).

Seat 61 has all the info - there is a section on how to get to and from Bruges

If you have the any other station ticket as long as you get a train from Bruges scheduled to arrive in Brussels with an adequate transfer time, CIV will cover any delays and Eurostar would rebook you on the next available train at no cost.

I've stayed at the Adornes Hotel in Bruges and it was lovely. Had a room overlooking the canal and the breakfast room had a huge roaring fire (which was great in February).

I know it's a bit further and Holland as opposed to Belgium but Delft is a lovely place to visit if you want canals and somewhere pretty for a couple of days.
