Aside from discussing issues which may sound beneficial only for your part, discuss the positive side for the company as well. Let your boss know and feel that what you are actually requesting is a win-win situation for both parties.0

There's no harm in asking. But at the same time, why not apply for jobs at other companies in your preferred work location. That way you maximise your chances of getting what you want. Even if the pay is slightly lower, this may be offset by the lower travel costs.0

I'm not really sure any other place of work would want me as I would have to give 4 weeks notice to my current employer. Not sure another company would be willing to wait that long?
