Would it be okay to ask this of my boss?

Hello all,
Not too sure if any of you have seem my prior posts but due to financial and medical/health reasons, getting to work is proving beyond a joke financially and physically. (There is no possible other route to work apart from a cab, as I'm not able to drive yet and there is no public transport there due to it being on the A127). The cab costs me £18 each time for there and back.
I work for NEXT Retail, and don't get me wrong, I appreciate that I'm lucky to have a job in the first place, I was just wondering if it would be possible to move stores?
Basically, what I want is to change from the NEXT in Mayflower A127 to my much more public transport friendly and gettable town centre NEXT.
Would it be okay to ask to change store locations, since I still want to work for the same company? Or, would you say it's no different to saying I want to leave my job, since it's not the same store, meaning they no longer benefit from my work as a team?
There are of course much fewer positions ever available in the NEXT in my town because it's about 90% smaller. I was just wondering if a transfer would be reasonable and not too cheeky to ask for, since I want to be a credit to the company but it's tricky in my situation
VERY IMPORTANT: If I do ask about transferring, who do I ask?! I have what's called my 'line manager' for the particular department I work for, but I doubt she'd be in the position to help me. Furthermore, I work on Home and the NEXT in my local town does not have that department as it's too small :j

I don't have specific answers for you but, while you wait for someone with more information, do you think you should remove the data in your post which could be used to identify the store where you work and yourself (especially as you mention [text deleted]).0

There is no harm in asking for a transfer, however it may well be refused so I wouldn't get your hopes up too much just yet. They may grant your request but then put you on a waiting list as there could be others who have also requested to work at that store.
On another note, I agree with the poster above. You should remove all the identifiable information above just in case.0 -
They will only transfer you if they have a space available but I think its worth mentioning that if this did become the case you would be very interested.Don't trust a forum for advice. Get proper paid advice. Any advice given should always be checked0

There is nothing wrong with asking, as you have a valid reason to transfer. If you make it clear that you like working for the company as such and would rather move than leave altogether, your request is reasonable.Who having known the diamond will concern himself with glass?

I would approach HR, and ask for a TEMPORARY transfer until you get your driving licence. This seems to me, as an employer, a reasonable adjustment for disability, and shows willingness to accommodate THEIR needs on your part.Ex board guide. Signature now changed (if you know, you know).0

I disagree, firstly the OP hasn't said she has a disability and having to hire another member of staff to cover the OP in her original store is not a reasonable adjustment.jobbingmusician wrote: »I would approach HR, and ask for a TEMPORARY transfer until you get your driving licence. And what happens if the OP never passes their test, or takes 4 years...is that still reasonable?Don't trust a forum for advice. Get proper paid advice. Any advice given should always be checked0 -
I agree with takeaway, OP hasn't established a disability although a transfer MAY be a reasonable adjustment subject to a vacancy being available OR perhaps another member of staff being willing to swap store.
And additional complication may be that OP would not be considered suitable for any vacancy given she is not trained for any department which is at the smaller town centre store.0 -
I have a friend who works at Next Warehouse and when he moved Cities. They also allowed him to instantly move Warehouse, no problems, to a closer warehouse.0

I am trained for any department actually. I often work in Children's Wear and Men's Wear, although I am actually contracted to home.0

Because of medical / health issues, have you looked into access to work? Or do you know of any colleagues who work the same shifts as you who live nearby, who could pick you up?Sealed pot challenge #232. Gold stars from Sue-UU - :staradmin :staradmin £75.29 banked
