Good morning all,
I have just signed up to checkmyfile for the first time to look at my credit file and noticed there is a default account.
This is a bank account that was a joint account between me and my ex girlfriend and I thought the overdraft had been cleared before we split up.....anyway it seems it wasn't and it went into default in august 2010..... So from a little research this will come off my credit file in aug 2016?
I am going to ring up the bank and try and pay off this money today, I know the default will stay on my file until 6 years are up but I've just read that if I pay it off today then it will stay on my account for another 6 years from today?? Is that right?
A few questions I have if any can answer them is will paying off this default fully improve my credit worthiness? I'm looking at getting a loan hence why I checked out my credit report.....and it says on my file that I'm still financially linked with my ex.... I'm guessing this is cause it's a joint account....do I need to let the credit agency know we are no longer together? Or do I wait until the account comes off my credit file? I've read that if she has poor credit history now (I'm unsure what she has done with herself in the last 4 years) then it will affect my credit score if we are linked.
Many thanks for any advice
Danny

No, the default will come off 6 years after the default date (the date on the credit file) Paying it off now will only mark it on the credit file as "satisfied"0

you need to check Equifax, experian and call credit (free via noddle) to see if the link is on there. Dont know which one check my file uses.
Then, for each one it shows, file a notice of disassociation, which can be done online.:beer:0 -

Check My File shows account data for Equifax & CallCredit/Noddle only.
It does not show account data for Experian, only public record data such as CCJs or electoral roll information. This is stated in their Terms & Conditions as quoted below:The information we provide may not be identical to that which can be obtained elsewhere. For example, we do not provide account information from Experian, although we do provide Experian's version of the Electoral Rolls/Registers, persons linked to you on the Experian database, Experian's record of insolvencies including bankruptcy, sequestration, IVA records, Trust Deeds, and similar, together with Experian-sourced court records including High Court Judgments and County Court Judgments, including the court, plaint number and status of such judgments, and whether settled or not
You should obtain the statutory £2 report from Experian.0
