  • I'm also on New Deal at the moment, and just finished the two week course in Bradford, West Yorkshire, it might be different depending where you live but what it entailed was, first week a , was a getting to know yea group, saying who you are and what sort of job you are looking, also updating yea CV or creating one if you don’t already have one, and also doing a job search on the computers and newspapers in the training centre/place that was the first week. We also did interview techniques and how to fill out forms etc, the second week was doing active job searching, gets boring after a while, but at least either 1 or 2 days they let you out into town to look for jobs and to register with job agencies and that’s about it really. You get your lunch paid for and also your 2 weeks travel paid for too. In some places there is drop in sections so you can go in and look for jobs etc. when you go back to the job centre to see your New Deal advisor they’ll say how it went on and so on and if you haven’t found a job in the next 6 weeks they send you on a 13 week course, what is boring I’ve been told.

Other then that that’s about it really

how many people was in your group steven?
  • Well in our group it started off with like 25 but then after the first day yea get split into 2 groups. so about 12-13 in a group my group was a nice bunch of lasses and lads, age ranging from 19 - 40+. But by the end of the two weeks there was only like 15 left out of the total 25.
also the reason the group started off large and went small was yea get dismissed if yea late turn up so many times and also if your sick too. the job centere now if yea turn up since yea have to fill out a New Deal Job Centre time sheet. there's lot's of paper work involved on the first week so get's boring it does
  • new deal for young people costs 4150 million to run the herceptin caner drug costs 650000 per person if the gvt halved the money they waste on new deal they could potentially cure 3192 ppl of cancer. where is the sense in puting everyone in the same new deal programe when half the people wont even need it.

i am not actually unemployed i just dont work enough hours. i wonder if they have put me on new deal in error.

I started it last week even though I was offered a job the Friday before. Problem is it doesn't start till the middle of Feb so can't afford to sign off yet.

You see your advisor every week but still get your money every 2 weeks. The first week you go you have to do a small assessment (really it's very very very easy, just read through a job advert and pick out a few words and phrases from it then put your own details on the back as if you were applying for the job). They talk about what you want and what qualifications and experience you already have. Then they give you an action plan for the week and amend your job search agreement. Not really sure about courses but to be honest it was the biggest load of rubbish I've ever come across. My advisor admitted that they had been notified that I'd had a job offer and were keen to get me on New Deal so their statistics would look good when I signed off in a couple of weeks (i.e. proving that it worked). The problem is there really isn't much work about at the moment. Good luck with it, was the worst 2 hours of my life because the stupid woman didn't believe me when I said I had a degree and hadn't even bothered to look at my file to see what kind of work I was applying for and what my situation was. Hope you have better luck than me (got to go again tomorrow)
