New joint tax credit claim query

Hi all
I've recently reconciled with my partner and have finally received a new claim form (which only took them three months!)
Having done an online estimate, based on last year's joint income we will be ineligible for any payments as we were both working and earned approximately £40k between us and have three children.
However, my job ended on 31st March and I've reapplied to go back to uni in Sept so any income I have this year will be considerably less than last year.
When my award is updated by Tax Credits and they say we're ineligible (based on last year's income), will they be able to alter it based on this estimated income?
Sorry if it's a bit of s garbled message!
Thanks in advance
