* Pulled out of purchase, how long for solicitors to send final invoice?! *

Hi all, I pulled out of a house purchase on the 23rd July and informed my solicitor on this date, as well as following it up in writing the following day.

She finally emailed me back confirming receipt of the email and letter. She said she'd sent back the contract and would be arranging refund/invoice of fees very shortly. This was 8 days ago.

Still I have heard nothing else since. I sent a cheque for £200 pounds which in effect 'activated' my account with them. I was told it would not be cashed until I instructed searches (it was cashed within 3 days of them receiving it)

I'm just wondering how long it usually takes? I asked for a full breakdown of how much I'd be charged as she told me it could be either half of the original quote or a third  This is really winding me up now, but if someone says this type of delay is the norm then I'll feel a lot better about it all.

8 days is not toooo long. Give it a week and make a polite phone call.

They have to cash the cheque ie pay it into client account, as its law society rules. Which they would keep until they spent it on your searches.

However if I was you I would just ring them and just prompt them that you are still waiting to hear from them so that you can get everything sorted. To be honest as your purchase is now not going anywhere it is not so much of a priority, so just remind them you are waiting.

The one thing most solicitors are extremely efficient at is sending out bills. I'm sure you will get yours shortly.
