Fraudulent Wonga loan on credit report

My daughters partner has discovered a Wonga loan was taken out in his name fraudulently. Wonga are aware and so are the police – he has a crime number. However, this loan appears on his credit report and was obviously not paid (it was threats of debt collection that meant he found out about the loan). How can he get it removed as it is preventing him obtaining a mortgage? Thanks for your help

He should be able to add a notice of correction to his records with the main credit agencies - this page is Experian but I believe the others have similar facilities. he should make sure that the notice he submits is factually accuarate.

Does Wonga accept that his name was used fraudulently? If so, then he can ask them to take steps to remove the incorrect entries.

How recently did he report the fraud to Wonga?
Have they investigated and agreed it was fraud?

If so then they should remove the entry, if they haven't done and its more than a month see they agreed the debt was not his then it would be worth him chasing them up.

A notice of correction in a best case scenario will cause a referral and hence delay in the underwriting process and the worst case is that it will trigger an automatic rejection as some lenders simply don't want to deal with the extra administration and associated expense of a notice. Best to get the data removed as soon as possible through Wonga.
