Agency is understandably !!!!ed off and now saying they will be billing me for lost time, telephone calls and admin. Which is funny as they said in same message they don't charge candidates forfinding a job , but will do for lost time.
Is this even allowed? Is there a contract in place?
And do you think they will carry out this threat? We have never even met!
Whilst you should chastise yourself morally for not informing them of your miscommunication, the agency has no right to bill you for jobseeking services. Tell them you want to consult with the REC and see what they say, if they're a member of course.
I'm not sure even if you signed a contract, it would make any difference as they are bound by law of employment services which says you cannot charge. Hopefully someone could advise here.0 -

I have given the relevant law in post 190 -
Thanks I will wait for the "invoice" to arrive! Looking back at the email, it was funny how many exclamation marks the recruiter was using and then mentioning that other companies would do the same (about charging for lost time). When I've used recruitment agencies in the past, I've had to register with them by filling in forms and signing the forms affixed to their terms and conditions. I have never seen anything before which says they will ever charge candidates in any situation.
Of course I still feel bad about not letting them know about not wanting the interview anymore, and I could have prevented this. Still, think their behaviour is a little outrageous - not like its never happened before (people missing interviews)0 -
You should ask if they are from Estonia? re exclamation marks
Hope you'd set a precedent, imagine all the claims for unsuccessful interviews everybody
Take it this is one agency who thinks their special? what a hoot, when I think back of last week's interview via agency who must have only been thinking of the commission! I felt sorry for the client and the agent who claimed to have visited the companies office but couldn't offer any directions as to finding the interview at same building, I also cancelled one today who wanted paying for a DBS check...0 -
I've had MY time wasted, by job agencies, so OP should tell agency it was an honest mistake, and go elsewhere..
Examples of bad agency experiences..
Went to an interview, where the firm had been sent someone else's CV.. most awkward, annoying.
Sent for a job interview that had already been filled (the day before?!). No one bothered to call, so a trip to London was wasted. At least I got train fare refunded..
Having to chase up bank holiday pay (when temping)
Not even a thank you note, for earning them £££ after a long placement.breathe in, breathe out- You're alive! Everything else is a bonus, right? RIGHT??0
