threat by job agency

So long story short, I had an interview arranged which I did not go to. Completely my fault and I hold my hand up for not telling them I did not want to go

Agency is understandably !!!!ed off and now saying they will be billing me for lost time, telephone calls and admin. Which is funny as they said in same message they don't charge candidates forfinding a job , but will do for lost time.

Is this even allowed? Is there a contract in place?

And do you think they will carry out this threat? We have never even met!

Did you sign any document when you joined this agency?

I would imagine that if you wish to continue using their services that you would have to pay.

But you may be able to just leave them behind and find another.

Check their website, look for terms and conditions.. did you sign anything? Any policies or etc that appear at the bottom of emails? Anything that links you to having to pay for services.

    What difference does that make?

Nothing has been signed. T and C on website shows nothing about charging job searchers, they only refer to their recruitment clients.

Not sure on legalities really. Once I had to cancel a driving lesson very late, and the instructor said there will be a charge because he couldn't rebook anyone else in that spot so he's losing money etc.

I didn't use him again (haven't had lessons since), so he never saw that money. Haven't heard from him since. He just obviously would have likely refused to do further lessons unless I paid it. Probably similar situation for you.

    Move on to another recruiter..?

Your argument: what would have happened if you hadn't actually been offered job in the end? as nothing is guaranteed as it is the EMPLOYER'S choice
seriously if there isn't more to this, I'd say bring it on! ;)
subscribing to your thread if I may! hope it gets resolved

Yeah I have no intention of using them again, this is the only time I've used them. Ive not formally registered with them, in fact on day of interviee the plan was to visit their office first.

I'm just worried if they will in end send the I invoice? Or is this an empty threat?

even if they send you an invoice, you don't have to pay it.

    What nonsense.

The OP instructed the employment agency to find him work. They did this. He may not have to pay, but we don't know the terms on which he engaged the agency.

A contract needs offer, acceptance and consideration - clearly all 3 were present between the OP and the agency. Your analogy to replying to this thread is a nonsense.

Of course it's not nonsense! The point I was trying to make is that anyone can send an invoice for whatever they like, if the recipient is legally obliged to pay it, well that's a totally different kettle of fish!

The OP has already stated that there was nothing in the agencies T&Cs about paying for missed interviews, nor did he sign any documentation suggesting anything similar.
