At a guess its either the meter is at fault which tend to be unlikely from what I have read, a incorrect meter reading or typo, or your in arrears.
Is this a estimate or a actually reading?
normally at this time of year there tends to be a lot less usage.0 -
They said its an actual reading and that we have used 85,000 night units...and they have deleted all other meter readings from our powergen online account....very strange...we have night time storage heaters but they are only on 3 months of the year.0

yeah sounds like an error
read you meter now and as they have stated on a daily basis keeping a log of what appliances you use and how long for even boiling kettle etc.
also have they charges you for the previous tennats usage as alot of companies do that0 -
Have you had someone around to read your meter recently? They might have been the ones that made a mistake.
We had someone around 2 months ago and he made a huge mistake in the reading (mistook 3s for 8s) and we ended up with an enormous bill equivalent to more than twice our yearly consumption.
Check all readings again.0 -
i got a bill for 1600 off BG they said they have restructed my account,
i posted my problem earlier so far despite promises from BG have not heard anything, but the meter reader is on his rounds so lets hope after that i can get to the bottom of my complaint, so check your readings and keep all your bills as you never now.0 -
A very dear friend of ours had an astronomical bill, they were in a flat, which unbeknown to them had a loft space that could be accessed by the neighbours, as they were pensioners they never went into the loft, when the electric company came round the neighbours had set up a canabis farm in the own loft and were hooking into our friends electrics to power the lamps, though the loft!!!!:mad:Duct tape is like the force. It has a light side, a dark side, and it holds the world together."

If you have kept previous bills, make a note of the day and night time readings. The more bills the better as you will be able to build up a pattern of usage per quarter.
If you do not have these, write to Powergen and ask for 5 years worth of bills.
85,000 is the equivalent of around 10 years worth of night timeelectricity by a heavy user. i.e. the dryer, kettle and vacuum cleaner were never switched off.
You must take your own reading as soon as possible and start recording the usage on a day to day basis, as this will also build up a picture.
85,000 units is an impossible acheivemant for three months, most use around 6-8000 units in total a year on an economy 7 meter. A high user uses around 9,900 units.
Powergen has made a mistake.0 -
Hi, thanks to everyone for their responses...we have taken 10 days worth of readings and sent them off to Powergen....we have now received a bill saying we are £20,000 in credit????0

Speak to a lawyer, ask if you can have the money transferred into your account and then spend it without any repercussions.
If they make a mistake with their advice, their insurance will cover you for it.
It's a gamble.0 -
It sounds like you've got a similar problem to a friend of ours, she just received a £12,000+ bill from Powergen (after closing the account as she'd moved and receiving a refund as her account was in credit).
Good luck in getting it sorted0
