Morocco - holiday money

Hi all,

I'm off to Marrakech in June. I know the dirham is a closed currency, can I just trade in cash when I'm at the airport in Morocco?

According to MSE's travel money, I can use some online services to get the dirhams delivered to home. Has anybody used these before? If the dirham is closed, I am not sure on their reliability?

Any other tips?

I am not eligable for a Halifax Clarity with my credit score unfortunately :D

Thanks!

Kalixa Pay. If you can get someone to refer you, you will get a £5 rebate.
Then pull out a decent chunk once you land.

Thanks - have you got a link and have you used it yourself before? I tried googling it, but it keeps coming up with money transfers and that's not what I'm looking for!

you can change GBP or EUR when you get there and get a good rate, then at least its in your pocket withou having tohave the hassle of finding a cash machine

In most places I've visited I've found it at least as easy (and usually easier) to find an ATM as to find a place to exchange cash. I haven't been to Morocco though, so maybe it's an exception.

In Marrakesh there are loads of ATM's, especially around the main shopping areas. Even in the Medina there are plenty to use.

Outside of the city though, they are harder to find. Most towns have one or more, but as you would here, you may have to hunt around a bit to find one.

When we went a couple of years ago, we changed our cash at the Airport...we're going again in January...we love it!

    Exercise caution with ATMs [anywhere].
If it's a stand-alone machine, and it chews your card, or dispenses the wrong amount of dosh, then you're up the creek.
Use an ATM attached to an [open] bank, or preferably one inside the bank.
Then, if you have a problem it can be sorted out on the spot.
And if you use an ATM in a poor country it might spit out high denomination notes, which might prove difficult to use [in the short term].
And don't forget to inform your card provider that you're about to be going abroad.

There are lots of ATMs as has been said. I found that quite often they did not issue a paper receipt. Although there were no discrepancies with my bank statement it was rather unnerving.
