What certificates should a kitchen fitter supply?

I have had a kitchen installed, which included a gas hob, electric oven, integrated fridge freezer, etc.

I have been stupid and paid for the completed work, but I have just realised that I don't have any certificates for the gas hob installation and some of the electrical changes required during installation.

What should the fitter have supplied legally?

I guess:

1) gas safe certificate for the gas hob?
2) electrical cert P certificate for the electrical changes?

I have paid and I am finding it difficult getting the fitter round to sort it out! I know I should have held back some of the money until I got all of the paperwork, but I trusted him since the fitter is the cousin of a friend of mine. He has been in business for a long time and I considered him trustworthy.

1) What can I do if he refuses to supply these certificates?
2) Will I have problems selling my house without them?

Thanks,

A gas safe certificate is only required if the property is going to be rented going forward....its not offered or issued as standard on a domestic kitchen fit....although should you require one the general fee paid by a Landlord to obtain one is in the region of £60 plus vat.

Selling your house going forward would not require a gas safety certificate in place...
someone with knowledge of electrics may be answer your other point...thats not me sorry.

how can I prove the installer was gas safe registered if I don't have a certificate? Surely if I sold my house, then my buyers solicitor would require a document or registration on some database to prove the installation was done correctly\safely?

I dealt with the kitchen fitter and not the gas person. The kitchen fitter got the gas person in. I have no idea who he sub-contracted this to. All I have is an invoice for the kitchen installation. I have no paperwork which indicates who fitted the gas hob.

I'm getting the impression that I don't need any paperwork, but surely the registered "gas safe person" should provide a document to confirm that he did the installation?

If you are unable to obtain the name of the gas installer from the kitchen fitter and you are concerned about the safety of the appliance I would suggest you contact a gas safety registered fitter of your choosing to verify the work carried out....although bear in mind this would probably be a chargeable visit.

With respect, if you have allowed a sub contractor to do the work in your property and you are concerned or need clarification over the work he has done you should find out who he was.

I suggest you obtain the details of who your kitchen fitter used for peace of mind at least

instalation of flueless cookers is NOT notifiable

    http://www.gassaferegister.co.uk/advice/gas_safety_in_the_home/building_regs_certificates.aspx

if it was a straight swap in swap out, there is no notifiable work, so you need no paperwork.

that is a relief. I don't know why the fitter didn't just say this to me!

Is this same with the electrics? He did some minor alterations to the electrics. He connected everything to existing connections (oven, extractor fan, integrated washing machine). He did extend one circuits to put in a on-off switch for the integrated fridge freezer in one of my cabinets. Does this need a certificate?

    Many thanks!

When we had a new kitchen fitted a few years ago the fitters sub contracted electricians to install extra sockets etc., and a gas safe registered fitter to fit a gas hob, both of them supplied us with safety certificates for testing the installations and the work they had done.

No it isnt, they can issue a saftey certificate (but they dont NEED to), but building regs does not care about installing a gas hob/oven as long as its a straight swap.

the electrics however, is notifiable and so should have been notified and a complaince certificate recieved from the CP scheme.
