    It is 'cheap' style chicken.

I work on the rule of thumb there will always be 18% of water added.

Because they added the marinade, they did not have to declare the water content.

By law if it is just chicken the manufacture must display the added water content.

Also as the label states 110g of raw chicken per final 100g of chicken then any added water would have been cooked out.

Chicken breast can be very dry so having a bit of added water just makes it more moist and enjoyable to eat. Too much water though can just ruin in.

When I buy value range I expect it to be very watery, but that's because you pay a lot less for it! That packet costs about £2 (I buy the plain chicken value range sometimes) but a smaller packet of chicken breast of regular Tesco brand costs £3. It's all about preference and knowing that you get what you pay for.

It's not as bad as when I bought frozen tesco value chicken and cooked it in a George Foreman grill - it didn't grill it, there was so much water it boiled the chicken!! In a george forman grill! Asda smart price frozen chicken never boiled in that grill!

Being a bit of a tightwad I would have bought a whole clucker and cooked in the slow cooker overnight and had probably a darnsight more chuck for my bucks :):):)at least what comes out of the clucker when cooked can be used to make chicken soup:):):)along with odd bits of meat that just fall off the carcuss
  • :think:I've bought that exact product before and never had a packet swimming in water like that

The level of water will increase as the product ages.
There is likely to be more water in the pack as it nears the end of its shelf life

I buy my chicken from my local butcher - no added water and he does a huge 5kg tub for £25 - it lasts us ages - we normally get about 25-30 breasts in each tub. I once saw a you tube video where this bloke was just on a procuction line syringing water into full chickens and chucking them to one side. Never eaten added water chicken since! My butcher is online the names Hazeldines butchers. hth :)

Most of tesco meat is frozen, thawed and refrozen as it gets shipped from all over the country.

    that's why is tastes disgusting!

  • I no longer buy chicken from Tesco,,, or any meat for that matter!
The amount of water in their chicken is disgusting,, and the meat is all about the packaging.
I think the company is just to busy trying to maximise profit.
