And then further down it says

    Defrosting:

Defrost thoroughly for a minimum of 12 hours in the refrigerator and use
    immediately.
    Once defrosted, do not refreeze.

I read the instructions as saying that:

The suppliers have frozen and defrosted the chicken once.

You may freeze and defrost the meal once but only once.

If you put any meat in a marinade which contains some salt and sugar, then it will draw water out? Unless it has a LOT of salt, in which case it would cause any liquid to go IN to the chicken or meat.

In 2012, OH bought some pork chops from Tesco. Not in a sauce, no marinade or coating on them just plain pork chops and not value range either. The label on the outside gave no indication of 11% added water, glucose syrup or additives. On the back of the label, only accessible once opened, it did give us this info, which we felt was alarming.

Since then we've only eaten organic or wild food.

Adding marinade etc to food adds value for the manufacturer/supermarket. It allows them to hide cheaper cuts/ingredients with flavourings and additives.

lol - had exactly same experience but think it was Sainsbury where glucose was a significant ingredient in the 'fresh' pork I bought.

I did not go as far as only buying organic but I don't buy meat from the major chains.

    It is 'cheap' style chicken.

I work on the rule of thumb there will always be 18% of water added.

Because they added the marinade, they did not have to declare the water content.

By law if it is just chicken the manufacture must display the added water content.

I have diabetes so I don't want to be eating something which contains an unspecified amount of glucose syrup. Pigs don't contain glucose syrup naturally. You might expect marinaded stuff to have added ingredients but not supposedly natural unadorned meat. Increasingy supermarkets are adding stuff.

Why pay for water ? If it's 10% water then every 11th pack of pork chops, chicken or whatever is virtually 100% profit for the supermarket. Is the water clean ? Is it fluorodised tap water ?

I'm not at all sure that Tesco value chicken like that would go down a treat in Africa actually and in that heat it would spoil very easily. Fatuous remark.

    .

It will have the nitrites removed from it, or the chicken ends up pink.

The water will be clean. It may be swabbed every X period of time to check for certain microbiological are below a certain level.

The water supply will probably be filtered as well.

This water will most likely be cleaner than your tap water at home.

They will most likely be using there local water supplier for there water.

There are laws on how much water can be added without it being declared. Off the top of my head I can not remember the %.
However if you think of pork. You often see values of pork (86% pork) on the cheaper packs and water listed on the ingredient dec.

Water is not all bad. It can help keep the meat moist and help tender the meat.
Instead of water, I could marinate in wine. hey presto its coq au van (plus charge a lot more and make it finest range). This product was originally developed to tender up old chicken and stop them going to waste.
