Sorry to ask this here, but even asking iPlayer themselves I still haven't had a response?
Is it possible to play any iPlayer Radio (app) shows on my iPhone iOS as offline when I have no WIFI / 3G? ie: for a flight?

Unable to check the app. Assuming that you cannot - then your best option would be to see if the shows you want are available as podcasts
(so you could then subscribe via podcast app and download for offline listening)
see/search via http://www.bbc.co.uk/podcasts
p.s. looking at the IOS page for Iplayer radio app - suggests that you can - there should be a 'podcasts' button on the bottom0
