Child Tax Credit

Hi everyone - I was going to ring the helpline, but it seems I might be in for a long wait so thought I'd ask here instead.
I just want to check that I have this all correct in my head, and I'm going about all of this in the right way, as tax credits thoroughly confuse me.
So we started claiming in October(ish) last year. I completed the forms with the previous years (13/14) earnings for myself and DH. Once we got our award I then phoned to tell them our estimated 14/15 earnings (as they were very different due to my SMP and DH's job swapping). Everything has been hunky dorey.
The estimates we gave were slightly out (I earned about £1000 more than I estimated due to a bonus, but DH was more or less right) so I assume this will be picked up with the renewal (we are still waiting for this to come)?
Also, this year (15/16) DH's salary will be higher than last year's, and mine will be less (going back on SMP later this year). So, my question is, is there space on the renewal form to put this information down? or should I ring them now with our final 14/15 earnings and estimated 15/16 earnings? Or what do I do?! I know if anything changes then you're supposed to ring them (however nothing has technically changed - DH's income has increased as this will be his first full financial year on this higher income, and I haven't gone on SMP yet).
I hope this makes sense. I just don't want to ring them, wait on hold for ever, then be told it's all in the renewal pack!
