Tuesday 5th May - What small DFW things will you do today?

When we start out on the DFW trail we do loads of "big stuff" that makes quite a difference to our situation. These include having our lightbulb moment, cutting up the credit cards and cancelling Sky and the gym

But once we have done the bigger stuff, we often feel that we are not making the same amount of progress, when in fact the small steps are helping us form good financial habits and helping us get closer everyday to staying in control and becoming debt free, or staying debt free.

Examples could be hanging washing out instead of using the tumble dryer or leaving your purse/wallet at home to avoid the risk of spending.

So be proud of those small steps, they really are important!:money:

    Morning all :)
Thanks for starting the thread Ziggy
I love the Kon Marie thread too, La E - I haven't done all the folding etc, but I have got rid of a lot of clutter :D

I posted on the 'other' thread yesterday as well, and was very confused when I discovered that there were two

Rainy here today, but at least I won't have to put watering the garden on today's list!

    So far I have:
Cleared up after old dog's overnight accident in the conservatory :(
Food and water for chickens and let them out
Put washing machine on (hopefully it will clear up later so it can go outside to dry, if not, it will go on the airer)

    Still to do:
Dental hygienist appointment later this morning

Take items already packed into car to sales unit after the dentist's, so I only need to take the car out once :D

Bread machine on later, though the neighbouring town where I go to the dentist has a lovely bakers shop which sells fresh loaves with olives, red peppers etc, so I will treat us to one of those for lunches for a couple of days :)

Spends today - dentists, some paper for the printer, some sand for GD's sand tray (as she got in such a mess digging in the compost in the plant pots last time :rotfl: and a nice loaf of bread

Whizz round with hoover etc later as I will be looking after baby GD tomorrow, and need it to be clean for her - and certainly won't get chance to do it while she is here :rotfl:

HM supper from what I have in - the other half of a duck that I bought at the butchers the other day, with roasted veg from the stash in the fridge

Tidy up the larder if I get the time - it is a bit of a nightmare in there  Probably because it is small and I have too much in there :o But tidying the shelves and putting new packets etc into the correct storage jars will make a difference :)

That will do me for today I think. Hope everyone has a nice day :)

    Morning Campers,
Will be busy with the election over the next couple of days, so am hoping to get through a decent job list today. The money saving bits will be:
*Setting timer for overnight laundry on cheap tariff.
*Making a meal tonight from last of the leftover pulled pork & salad.
    *Eat random leftovers for lunch.
*Make tomorrow's packed lunch & work snacks.
*Plant out greenhouse tomato plants & pot the outdoor ones up ready to harden up outside in daytime. Tomatos looking quite poorly as they've used all the nutrients so will give them a boost of seaweed.
*Sort out next bedding plants for hardening off. The 4 trays of cosmos I was given ready to be planted out now so might start that too.
*Water veggies.....depending on rain as supposed to be v wet today.
*Update grocery budget which is very depleted after hosting guests. Lots of food in stock though.
    *Stitch wire back into bra.
*Write birthday thank-you letters. Have already got stamps, so an NSD looks v likely.
*Read free 'Observer'.....but only when jobs are finished.
*Pack away all the recycled stuff I've been collecting to re-use. Since my big 'Minsgame' declutter, the rule is that if it doesn't have a 'home', it can be chucked out.
    *Start new charity shop bag.
*If time, re-list eBay items & do a few surveys. I've slacked on surveys recently, so need to get back to it, as am keeping running total of all this year's survey income (see signature) & want to see how well I can do.
*I don't think I'll get around to this one today - declutter household/cleaning cupboard. It is so full, I can't get anything else in it. Bit of a mystery as I use Stardrops for most jobs & buy v few cleaning products. Think I need to delve right to the back & start a 'Use it up' box.
Ok, time to get a shift on. Hope everyone has a good day.

  • Morning everyone :)
Thank you for my welcome yesterday, and I do apologise for being a bit glum as I was just feeling a bit sorry for myself (!) but today is another day - albeit a rainy day here.

Today we are cancelling our Sky TV subscription and going to use our Freesat box, so we only have to pay for the phone line as broadband is 'free'. This will save us approx. £35 per month.

Yesterday I managed to sell a few bits and pieces on FB and made £36. I have done a food cupboard/fridge/freezer inventory and made a meal plan for the next week, so as we have no other money spare, £36 is my food shopping budget for the 5 of us this week! Off to Lidl - we usually shop there anyway, but going to be extra careful from now on.

Start a new charity shop bag - thank you foxgloves, will do that today too and clear more stuff.

Have gone round the house and turned everything off and have had a good look at what is plugged in and costing me money, and have managed to remove a few bits and pieces and might sell them lol!

We have a dryer and really should use an airer when it's wet outside, but we have a very hairy labrador and all it takes is for him to walk past the washing and it's like I have fur clothing. Haven't got anywhere to put one really, unless I use the bathroom (dog not allowed upstairs!)

Also need to get some cheap paper for the printer for kids homework and for drawings etc. Will see if Lidl has any cheap stationary in today.

That's about all for today, hope you all have a good day :)
  • BTW - Foxgloves - I love your mantra for avoiding debt, that sums it up really well and that will be something that sticks in my head from now on.
At the moment in our situation it is not easy, but I am doing my best not to spend a penny more than I have to, otherwise it will just be one more thing that we have to deal with when our finances are in better shape.
    So thank you x

Savvy Shopper! I've been Money Tipped!
    Morning All
Well today has been spectacularly anti climatic so far. The big cheque I paid in last Thursday From the insurance was supposed to clear today according to the bank. Anyway I called to clear a debt today and my card was declined. So I called the bank. Who tell me I've failed security and they need to call me back. I explained I work in a shop and can't be answering my phone all the time. So of course they pick just as my first customer of the day is arriving....really peed off.
I know it's only a temporary set back but it's annoying.
Anyway off to search out my small things mojo and get on with the day.
    Back late bob

    Morning everyone

Off work poorly with some sort of flu bug so wont be spending anything today. Have got a shopping delivery coming, dont normally use T@sco but they sent me a £12 voucher and I couldnt make it to the supermarket anyway.

Might do a bit more work on my finance spreadsheets if I feel like it otherwise it will be a day on the sofa in front of the telly.

Glad you are feeling a little bit more positive Purple.
