O/S Daily Tuesday 5th May 2015

This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” is fine

    Morning everyone

Elona – so sorry to hear your sad news, thinking of you and your family x

Birthday wishes to those celebrating a birthday, hope you have a great day x

Hugs and get well wishes to those that want/need them.

Now light, raining and very wet underfoot, rain started during the late evening and doesn’t look to have stopped since – forecast much the same for all day today and tomorrow.

DH up and gone to work stupid early. DS1 now getting ready for work. Will wake DS2 shortly, so he can get ready for school.

Dinner yesterday was cook from frozen pork joint, roasties, veg, Yorkshires and gravy. DH moaned about it saying that the stuffing had got apple in it – he doesn’t like fruit with savoury things, so he didn’t eat the meat. I didn’t say anything just ate my food – I’m not going to get drawn into an argument with him, just going to let him get on with it. I couldn’t taste apple – it would be my favourite if it did, as I’m the only 1 in the house that has apple sauce with pork, cranberry with turkey etc. Tonight’s dinner will be fish, chips and beans for the menfolk, I’m having fish, jacket potato and veg.

Weekend was lovely – really good to get away, went shopping to a nearby shopping outlet from the site with my friend and her daughter on Saturday and bought a pair of black trousers and a cropped summer pair – so just need some more sun tops and then I won’t need anything else, as most of my stuff that fits now is relatively new. Had a lovely bbq Sat evening with our friends but wasn’t warm enough to sit out to eat, sun shone but quite windy and wind had a chill to it. The air seem to change yesterday and was a bit warmer, but now we have rain. Got a few jobs done when we got back as we were back by lunchtime, got an item on ebay – thought that was going to be a nightmare as haven’t used it for ages, but managed to remember my password and get the item on without too much faff, just hope it sells now.

Back to work today for me, but just a full day today and half day tomorrow – normally it’s manic the first day back after a bank holiday – we’ll see.

    Keep safe and well x

    Morning All

Grey and overcast here after yesterdays lovely sunshine. I did DS2s washing last night and put it on the airers so it should only need 10 mins in the drier later before he goes back to the NL.

Had a chilled weekend, went for a long walk yesterday with DS2, had a coffee and wandered home again then a friend of his came round with her 3 month old baby so that was my gardening out of the window! What a lovely cheery little soul she is and so happy.

Dinner was sausauges and lo new pots sliced and fried with some green veg. Tonight it's the lo steak and ale pie so nice and easy. DS2 is going over to Edinburgh tonight as his flight is very early tomorrow morning.

House clean and tidy for a change (that's what happens when you have visitors!). Hope you all had a good weekend and enjoy the week ahead. Take care. XX

    Morning :hello:

    Lovely photos Judi x

redruby Good luck to DD x

I've been saving eggshells, they've been baked and roughly broken up and will be sprinkled around the plants in the greenhouses to keep the evil slugs away.

Mr tru took Scampi out yesterday, on his way out the door he picked up a bottle which he'd cut the top off and taped back on upside down, like a funnel. I couldn't work out what it was for, he came back an hour later with about 30 ladybirds, including four mating pairs :D They've been let loose in the greenhouses to deal with the aphids.

Someone burned something in my poaching pan, it's old and not non-stick. Whatever it was has been thrown away but they shoved the pan back in the cupboard without cleaning it properly. I've asked who did it and obviously, it was no-one. I filled it with washing powder and water and left it overnight on the hob. I've just knocked the handle and tipped half of it over. Looks like the hob is getting a clean today then :D

It feels wintery here too, makes me want to curl up with a book and eat chocolate all day :D No chance of that, though I'm trying to read for at least half an hour every day. I have a load of shredding to do, a couple of loads of washing and the house needs dusting. There's a bit of paperwork to sort and I'm still going through my books – what is it about books? They're so difficult to get rid of, even though I don't want most of them anymore :D

    Morning everyone.

Back in my favourite place and so pleased to be home. Far from the madding crowd. Was greeted by a flock of sheep being very vocal at bring moved to a different field and then a lovely white horse appeared. Haven't looked out yet to see if it's still there, hope not as there's not any shelter in the field.

I've got a delivery planned between 1.00pm and 5.00pm - my new rotary washing line.

There's plenty of food in the fridge so we'll we sorting that out

    Hope everyone is doing fine.

Your meal sounds lovely and it is his loss if he wanted to not eat the meat.

DH always used to love a "proper dinner" and for the last couple of weekends I have have felt strange having one when he was in hospital etc. so have been having different things. He loved crumbles so won't feel like making them for a while either. Bless him , he always appreciated what was cooked even if some things were not his favourite.

We all went to York yesterday and visited the Museum and its gardens and enjoyed it a lot. DH especially would have enjoyed it especially the references to Calcaria (or Tadcaster) where special stone was quarried and artifacts were found. It was one of the things we had planned to do together around this time along with visits to tearooms etc and gentle excursions.

We had a large chicken salad for lunch yesterday before going out and the DD and son in law drove back south at tea time but will be back at the weekend. Two younger dds are still here so made a spag bol last night and will turn the bolognese into a cottage pie by adding mash for tonight.

Will need tp do some phoning round today as most places I need to notify have been closed over the bank holiday.

    Hugs to all

    Morning all,

got a quiet day ahead of me I think. Last minute fund raising has taken the Girls and Soldier down south. The men are at work and I'm looking forward to the peace and quiet and the house needs a good clean.

Last night I spent the evening with all the girls, the babies were in bed and we were making the boxes for the wedding favours. It was lovely. Mind you, after making 150 and filling them, we had all had enough of them.

    Onwards and forwards,

    have a great day all.

  • Morning, ((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((hugs)))))))))))))))))) if you need one.The washing machine saga continues. I had not been able to raise anyone, so phoned the letting agents agents and they have put me onto someone who will be with us in about an hour. We have drained most of the water out of the machine, but still cannot open the door......hey ho will see what he says when he gets here.

Just at the moment its pouring with rain and blowing a hoolie and we have the back door open to try and dry the kitchen floor. OH managed to mop up 2 full buckets of water.......we now have 4 large towels to hand wring in the garden. Boy are they heavy!!
