Maybe you should watch the c word on tv tomtom. That will give you an idea of what cancer patients go through. A phone is essential as is the internet.
Why people pick on those two things when talking about people on benefits, i really dont know.
A phone is essential for making appointments, ringing emergency services, speaking to the benefits agency etc.
You need the internet for doing food shopping when you cant get out, talking to people, finding out about help and benefits entitlement. Most benefit claims are now done online.0 -
My Husband and I separated some years ago. He took out loans from our mortgage lender. Two in a short space of time. 25K and 27.5K Both to pay off other debts and credit cards.
He had at that time just gone self employed and did not have a full set of accounts, but the bank still lent him the money.
He has since had a mental breakdown and is unwell. We have been back together a while but I feel that the bank did not do enough at the time to make sure that he could pay these loans. He cant account for the money as he had bouts of depression at that time. Is there anything I can do to bring the Bank to account on these loans?
I would be grateful for any help0 -

Are you suggesting that the loans totalling £52.5k secured on the home should not have been advanced? Maybe they should not have been given the circumstances. However I can't see that it would make any difference. Without those loans, there would still be credit cards and other debts amounting to £52.5k still outstanding.0 -

Thanks for your reply. As far as I can see there was only £11,500 paid off credit cards and I could not find any loans. I have been through all the bank statements etc., I found nothing, the money seemed to be spent on his household bills and living expenses as his workload was low and he had not much coming in. Once he had spent the first loan, he then got another one.
Yes both the loan were advances on his mortgage.
I also came across another problem. After he had the loans, he approached the bank as he was falling behind on his mortgage. The bank said they would allow him to pay interest only for a limited time. when the time was up they kept his mortgage on interest only and did not revert back to his original repayment type.
Now some years down the line he is still on interest only and now had no way of climbing back to the repayment mortgage as the payments are too high.
The house will belong to the bank in 10 years time. The worse thing is Shaun did not know this had happened.0 -

You can always contact the Financial Conduct Authority and ask for some advice.
Do not go to the Financial Ombudsman Service; I have similar problems that I was ill with mental health problems, and the Ombudsman still sided with the bank saying they did nothing nothing wrong.
The trouble is with lenders, they go by credit score, and how you have managed your accounts in the past.
With my bank, Halifax, they never asked me any financial questions before giving me credit.
Failing that you can always contact the Citizens Advice Bureau.0
