Gas safety certificate

Me and my partner moved into our rented house in Feb 2014. This February our landlord called to say that she needed to send someone round to look at the boiler to get a new gas safety certificate. This still hasn't been done. Because we'v e been here over a year, and had nobody round in that time, I'm assuming the previous certificate was out of date in Feb if not earlier.
Is it a legal requirement that it HAS to be done every 12 months or is there a bit of leniency?
My landlord came round today as the boiler has completely packed in, and I mentioned that she said someone had to come round anyway and she didn't seemed that worried that it hadn't happened. I don't want to contact the agent yet until i know if it is a definite requirement as we are actually quite friendly with our landlords and don't want to ruin that before I know all the facts.
Any advice would be great, thanks!

It is a legal requirement to do every year. However it would be pointless to do now if the boiler has totally packed in and is being replaced.
It is also a legal requirment for you to have a copy of the certificate so you should know exactly when it expired.0 -
New tenants should be given a valid certificate at the start of the tenancy.
It expires after 12 months and a new one must be obtained by the LL and given to the tenants.

You can report to HSE, but you'll mess up your relationship with the LL and be out on your ear when the fixed term ends I suspect!
Is the 'packed up' boiler going to be fixed or replaced? Either way, ask to see the engineer's GasSafe ID, and check it :

If repaired, then yes, time to insist on a certificate. If replaced, a new boiler does not need a LL's certificate for the first year (but should have an installation certificate instead.)0
