Smart Parking are known as "Not-So Smart Parking" on here for a reason

They either did it deliberately to trick you into outing yourself, or their knuckle dragging monkey who issued the ticket has trouble reading VRMs at the required distance

Whether they put the right or wrong VRM on the ticket you would still wait for the NTK to give them the chance to screw up.

Hold your nerve - check lots of other threads on here and you will soon see that this is nothing to worry about.

Yes so you appeal straight away from the window ticket, stating it's the wrong reg expecting them to cancel it, whereas you have actually fell into the trap and identified yourself as the driver.
They will not cancel it on those or any other grounds they can get away with anyway.
Remember, they are just after money, nothing else, and will do anything they can to trick you into giving it to them.

Can i appeal after ive recieved the NTK as ive grounds to challenge it. for the procedure was not followed correctly and also compassionate reasons also. Im almost close to writing an appeal/contacting popla if anybody knows my rights and any codes which which would go in my favour it would be much appreciated

IF you receive a NtK
At the moment they have no idea who you are. Sit tight and keep it that way.
'Not so Smart' aren't as savvy as you might think.
The screen ticket details can NOT be linked to you on information in it. I've yet to see one of their clowns with a camera.

So at the moment, sit back and watch.

Unless you now receive an NTK within 14 days of the parking 'crime' then Smart cannot pursue the RK for the charge. The reason is that the NTK must replicate all the details of the windscreen ticket so even if you do eventually receive an NTK after 28-56 days it cannot have the same details as the registration is wrong & they cannot chase you with the wrong registration. They can only pursue the RK if they proceed as though there never was an NTD & issue a valid NTK with correct registration that must arrive with 14 days.
