Made a bit of a mistake i think !

Hi all

Im currently looking into getting another mortgage after a relationship split.

My credit rating was 999 so all good, ive been looking at getting a mortgage with Santander.

They offer slightly better deals to people with a Santander bank account so i thought i would open one on-line ( no overdraft, just a current account ).

Just checked my credit score and it has left a red mark ( search ) and my credit rating had dropped to 985.

I just didn't think at the time of opening the bank account ( silly i know ).

Do you think this would have a major effect on a mortgage application?

The score is worthless to a lender as they don't see it. It is simply the credit reference agency's interpretation of the data they hold on your credit file.

A current account search has a temporary negative effect but the older it becomes the less significant it is. Lots of recent searches may hamper a mortgage application but one search shouldn't have much if any effect, especially if it's with the same lender.
