Wall mounted sink on plasterboard wall?

Can a small wall-mounted bathroom sink, ~35cm to 42cm wide and so not a pedestal nor a half-pedestal, be mounted on a plasterboard wall?

Or should they only be mounted on brick/block walls?

This sort of thing:

Thank you.

It wouldn't be the wisest of moves!

Ideally you need to cut plasterboard out where you are wanting to mount the sink. You then need to sit timber between the vertical studs and secure it to them. Then replace the plasterboard. Then you will have a secure anchor point onto which you can attach the basin.

You can get those butterfly type bolts that open up the other side of the plasterboard.

As phill99 says . . . . . DO NOT use hollow wall fixings and rely on the plasterboard alone.

you'd need to make sure you are going into suitable stud work behind the plasterboard.

I second this, and add that the the horizontal timber between the studs is known as a noggin - just in case you Google and this term comes up.

When doing studwork if it is not known what height to put in the noggin, (for basins and details do vary) a piece, or two thicknesses, of 18mm WBP plywood could be fixed in instead. This will give many more fixing points or variations.

If behind the plasterboard there is a brick wall or the wall is a dot and dab plasterboard use Rigifix M6 or M8.
