Mib pi claim time

Options
Last June I was hit by a stolen vehicle with a thief fleeing the scene. My own fully comp policy arranged for my vehicle to be repaired and arranged a hire car for me. I did have to pay an excess of £850. Ive had an MIB claim for excess and PI submitted since like july n my solicitors looks like have got no where saying MIB take time. Should I be worried? What are your experiences of PI claims through MIB. THANKS

Your sols are correct - MIB takes a long time!
  • Sorry to say this but Im not sure which Solicitors you are using.
I have heard of MIB untraced claims going quite smoothly and the MIB responding within a good margin of time?
Are your solicitors perhaps dragging their heels in chasing the MIB?

Hiya, I have a claim going through with the MIB at the moment, and this won't be what you want to hear, but my accident was back in 2011. It's been so long now I can't remember all the detailed timescales, but I think it was around 18 months, possibly longer, before it was processed and agreed that I was 100% not at fault and would get compensation. The time since then has been because of the nature of my injuries and waiting for long-term prognosis, but for a more "simple" injury I would think 18 months-2 years for an offer is not exceptional.

I think it probably varies due to the nature of the incident too. With mine they went through a whole process of getting witness statements, police reports, medical assessments etc before coming to a decision. I'm not sure they'd always feel the need to do that - a stolen vehicle might be a quicker process than an untraced vehicle, for instance.
  • Straight forward claims settle in a couple of months, more complex cases that need investigations or multiple medical reports etc take longer.

They arent quick, but they arguably have more checks to do than a normal insurer.

For a start seeing as its a stolen vehicle they'll be making enquiries with the policy to see if the driver was ever identified which normally means buying a copy of the police report and the police wont generally release a copy of it until all investigations are completed and any prosecutions too if there are to be any. Even once it is available for purchase some constabularies are very slow at providing them (or at least were in my day)

As above though, injury claims in themselves can be slow if its a complex or long lasting injury and that can be the driver as much as the fact the MIB is representing the other party.
