Problems getting bank account (advice needed)

Oops I just posted this in the wrong place so here goes again!!

Having problems getting a bank account

Became BR 21st May 07

Been to - (all basic accounts applied for)

Barclays, filled out form, refused Equifax
Nationwide, refused due to BR
Abbey, Refused
Natwest, was creditor
Yorkshire Bank, no BR allowed
HSBC (the most helpfull, no looking down noses at me lol), refused experian

Lady at HSBC was quite bewildered with this as she had other BR customers and spoke to the manager re the decision.

They wondered if the credit ppl hadn't updated there systems of if the level of debt could be the problem
She is going to try the appication again in a month (see if anything has changed)

What should Experian and Equifax have on there records after BR?
Starting to think I wont get a bank account untill i'm discharged

There is no Coop near me

Any advice would be grate
My dad is startng to thimk my wages are his :p

Bit of background

37K dept
One joint loan with ex, rest cc all mine
Work F/T
Have 1 daughter

When you're declared, it doesn't wipe your credit record.

All the defaults, CCJs etc remain PLUS the BR order.

Any outstanding debst should be marked as satisfied with the date of the BR but the file exists pretty much as it was.

The Post Office do basic accounts with a cash card....

    Hi Conor,

I hold a card account with the post office but they will only allow benifits to go into it. (Chb, wftc)
    Is this the same one?!?

Was going to suggest the Co-op other than that keep trying. If I remember right a bank account is considered necessary for living nowadays maybe an appeal with one of the ones you have already tried.

Why not apply for Co-Op account on line, you can do most of your transactions with them at the post office and their Electron card can be used at any Link machine.

Is it possible that your credit file is indicating any kind of fraud? That's the only reason I can think of for being refused the usual bankruptcy friendly accounts. Worth getting your file and checking it I think.

Please try Coop very helpful can put in and take out money at Post office, can phone 24/7 and talk to a real person will set up DD & SO and give an electron card so you can pay by card at supermarket ect but only with money you have .You are not allowed an overdraft and 3 strikes (not enough in to pa dd example) and they will close the account.
We have found them a great help hope you do to.

    hi,
it may be worth applying for alliance and leicester full premier account on line,i got turned down for the basic account but got premier account with debit card but no od.

Their is also a managed bank account with think banking.it has a fee but you get a rbs account and a debit account.
i was in a simaler situation and that account was fine and you would get it.

you would have to google think banking to get address.

    fermi,just read the link.

i was in a situation where i could not get any basic account ,so think banking was fine. they were fine and did not have any probs with dd ect.
i closed mine because a and l gave me an account ,so not now needed.

it is a last resort really, but the card was fine online ect.

A lot of people on these threads think everyone can get a basic account but it is not correct,i know we all should but lots get turned down.
