A fairly no spend week really, so that's good. After my daughter's 18th I got the deposit back on the hall we used which paid for our Bank Holiday day out ( Cartmel races, no winners, but a good day was had!) Wed and Thursday were just spent working, Friday was no spend as I went to my "Friend's" for tea. Our friends have christened us Penny and Vince as we tell everyone we're just good friends! Then yesterday I got £15 back as the balloon people had botched up the party order which paid for a takeaway for tea. Today I need to go food shopping, but that comes out my 'bills' account so that's all accounted for.
Got the dentist on Wednesday ( yuck, preparation work for a bridge) but apart from that it should be no spends till Saturday for my birthday night out!0 -
Hi good luck on your journey I am sure you will do fab as you sound very determined could I ask what sort of market research work you have signed up for? X0

Smiles, it was marking not market research, I'm a teacher!
I've finished it now, but it was a long hard slog and I wouldn't rush to do it again! It's lovely to have my evenings back again ( well, apart from school work anyway!)
Dentist cost £379 ( EEEK!) but it will all be paid out of the marking money. Spent a fair bit at the weekend as we had a girls' night out, but then it was my birthday yesterday, and I got £100 cash, £80 in NEXT vouchers plus a bit more when I take back the top my sister bought me which doesn't fit) So that's my holiday clothes sorted hopefully.
I'm out at the weekend, but some of the birthday money can go towards that. May not pay any more than what I've already planned off the cards this month, but we'll get there! Not sure how much the marking money will be exactly, but it will cover a fair bit of the holiday and the dentist!0 -
First marking payment has come through. All straight in the holiday/ dentist saving fund! It feels good.0

Hi mintymoneysaver,
Im in a very similar situation to yourself - separated, bought the ex out of my house, now a much bigger mortgage, left with a bit of debt which pretty much doubled with me trying to make things nice for my son (and ironically, my ex!) after the split and am now paying it off, albeit slowly.
Have subscribed and will be popping in if you don't mind.

Ooh, very glad to have you join me, meand0!
Just about to update my sig as my £50 has gone out for Barclaycard, not a big difference but it's below £500 now! That seems doable, I'll set myself a little challenge of October, as that'll be £200 of payments at £50 a month, and then try and find an extra £280 over that time to pay off the extra bits.
I could pay it off with the marking money, but then I'd only end up owing it again after my holiday. Would rather have the cash for that, and then anything that's left over can chip away at it!0 -
Paid the credit card dentist bill, so I know that come the end of the month my credit card bill ( I have a Tesco one I pay off each month) will be £0. I currently still have £53 in my current account with £81 due in from child benefit so £134. That should well cover my niece's birthday present, the two meals out I have planned and get me though to payday a week on Monday. If there's any change still in my current account when I get paid I'll either stick it in the holiday fund or knock it off the Barclaycard!
The marking payment comes in stages so I have two more of those to come, I've had the main bulk of it but they should still get my holiday fund almost to what's needed, then only spends to think about. Feeling quite positive about all of this!0 -
Payday, so felt the need to update my sig!
Last month ended up being not quite as great as I hoped, I dug up an old shrub that was in my garden, and then ended up with a trip to the garden centre and ended up spending more money than I should have done on new plants. So I ended up being slightly overdrawn at the end of the month. This impacts on this month, so I'm going to have to be careful now!
I have just over £300 left after all food and bills, but it's a busy month. I have a christening, a retirement, a big BBQ that I'm hosting ( though most of that is already bought and accounted for), two lunches already booked in and I go on holiday the last week of the month.
I should get away with not buying any new clothes as I still have over £50 of NEXT vouchers to use, and £20 at M and S, my daughters mostly buy their own clothes now, but I may end up funding a small Primark trip.
So I guess apart from all that lot I can't afford to spend anything!
I know I'm very fortunate to have a good social life ( I make the most of being single, and I think once my money was all my own I felt like I should be able to have treats) but I do need to restrain myself. The quicker this money is paid off the quicker I'll be able to treat myself again ( with cash only!):rotfl:0 -
