I've heard that there's somewhere in Newry doing £1 to €1.40

There are numerous shops offering this exchange rate over the border. This is not to be confused with a Cash Exchange Bureau.

A shop will offer 1.40 only if you are purchasing goods in Euro in their shop, which is useless if you are going to Spain!

Some of the ASDA's have only Post Office branch inside them but offer a poor rate of exchange here in Northern Ireland

You have a choice Recorded Delivery or collect at your nominated local Post Office on the website. I chose the latter with no problems, just bring photo ID and the debit card you used on line

Collecting at Post Office seems safer!
