Injury compensation & HB

Hi, Please can some-body advise as to what I need to do. I have received fantastic news today, with a notification of an award from the criminal injuries compensation authority - c.£12,000. I have trawled through the threads and cannot really understand who or even if I would have to notify anybody when the payment reaches my bank account. I currently receive a small amount of Tax credits and Housing benefit. I have read some-where about a 52week disregard rule to injury compensation - and within days of it hitting my account over 50% will be gone to clear outstanding commitments. I am hoping that some of you kind experts will be able to advise me. Thank-you for taking the time to read this.

Speak to the council when the money hits your bank account and let them know that it is a personal compensation payment. Any evidence you give them will be scanned onto your 'file'. Make sure you keep the receipt of the scanning of the evidence.
Tax credits is not affected by capital at all - only if you receive more than £300 per year interest on it so no worries there.0 -

Thank-you so much pmlindylou for that information - I have had a good read - and it was incredibly informative. :beer:0
