So several reasons why Mrs gadgetmind might have to complete a tax return ;)

Yup, she's got some earned income, but also interest, dividends (some foreign), royalties, and capital gains. She's also now registered as self-employed, but had to do returns even before this.

I've had to do a tax return every year for the last 30 years, and even had to do one (and register for VAT!) in my final year at university.
I am not a financial adviser and neither do I play one on television. I might occasionally give bad advice but at least it's free.

Like all religions, the Faith of the Invisible Pink Unicorns is based upon both logic and faith. We have faith that they are pink; we logically know that they are invisible because we can't see them.

I worked @ HMRC for more than 30 years, including several as a Senior Tax Inspector, mainly investigating companies and their directors:naughty:

I never had to complete a tax return because they didn't pay enough to put me into the HR bracket :(

That's an interesting statement given that -
    1) Not everyone who has to complete a tax return is in the HR tax bracket.
    2) Not everyone in the HR tax bracket has to complete a tax return.

My daughter is at university, and will soon be receiving rental income from some lodgers, so I guess she'll need to start doing tax returns!

I'm aware of the reasons for having to complete a tax return. Obviously, none of the reasons applied ;)
