Hi, im a little bit worried abotu claiming on my home insurance as im worried i will loose a no claims discount (if it even has any). Im with more than.
Basicly, we went to flroida back in march , and i only got around to looking for the camcorder last week to put the movies onto dvd. Cant find it anywhere, and am now worried we left it on the plane or over there. Called the airport and airlines who have checked and said they have found nothing. Not sure what to do now, im really distraught as if loosing the camcorder isnt bad enough, the videos that where in it contained some footage we shot from xmas of the kids opening prezzies, (one of our girls 2nd chirstmas , so first when she knew what it was all about), and all of the footage of the whole holiday.
Im more botherd about the videos than anything, and i wouldnt care if we could find them. Makes me feel sick just thinking about it, and the harder it ry to remember in detail the xmas and holiday the harder it is to remember.
Anyway, the camcorder was abou 3 years old had a spare extra long life battery, 3 dv tapes in the case and had quite an expensive case itseelf that i had baught seperate, and was a minidv cam. I dont have any reciepts anymore , all i have as proof of its excistence is previous tapes from birthdays etc. Would this hinder my claim, and how much of the value should i epxect to get, as id imagine they count for its value now and not at the time?
Thanks for the advice, ive never claimed anything on home insurance before , and feel quite guilty doing it even though i shouldnt as its what we pay for.

Forget it....you've no chance of making a successful claim.0

It may be better to try to claim on your travel insurance, that way it would have no impact on you home insurance. If that doesn't succeed then you could try your home insurance but be aware that they will reduce the amount you get by any excess, usually about £100.
They would give you the current value, so look at the same brand and a similar model's cost, add the cost of the bits and pieces you described to get to a total, less any excess.
I don't think it really matters that you don't have the receipts for these things.0 -
Thanks , does claiming on your homee insurance impact your prices for future policys?Waddle you do eh?0

I think that More Than does have a no claims discount, in which case it would impact on your premium. If it doesn't, then a small claim like this is unlikely to have an effect.
Phone them and ask for their advice, they'll be happy to advise you.0 -
Thanks, ive been franticly trying to find any old credit card bill with the item on. Cant!.
Not sure if its going to be worth making a claim, as if they are ok without reciepts, they will probably value the item at alot less than other models around now, and with the 100 excess

Generally the only time that claims affect your policy prices is if you make lots of them. I've been stung after making 3 claims within a 2 year period - if you do then some companies wont consider you. Directline do and it doesn't affect the price. Basically when taking out the policy at the start you get asked the check box question have you made more than 2 claims in the past x years. In directlines case this is "more than 3 claims". Thats it.
Just my tuppence worth. There is no intelligent life out there ... ask any goldfish!0 -
I'd be suprised in the circumstances if they didnt request proof of ownership of the items, claiming for an item such as this so long after the event is very unusual. They cannot be that precious if you have taken so long to realise.
I really would dig out any receipts before you bother to notify them, as they will want full details of the items anyway.0 -
Ive never made a claim before.
As for your comment about them not being that prescious, The video recordings of my kids at xmas, and then on holiday are priceless!.Waddle you do eh?0 -

You went on holiday in March it is now August and you are not certain that you did lose it on holiday.
If you did not report it as lost/stolen at the very latest when you came back home they will not payout.0
