getting deposit back

What do I need to know before disagreeing with old LL on getting the deposit back.
He wants hundreds of pounds for things that I say were already done to the flat before I moved in.
The old inventory shows my case.

Just use the deposit protection scheme to demand the whole deposit back. Then the ball is in his court to justify and deductions. If the inventory backs up your claims then you have nothing to worry about.
Landlords aren't worth negotiating with, they are not to be trusted. They will mess you around until they hope you forget about it and let them keep it. So just go straight in and claim the whole thing back via the deposit protection scheme.Changing the world, one sarcastic comment at a time.0 -

That's a bit of a generalisation is it not - you've clearly had a bad run at some point!
That's like saying all tenants don't care about the property, leave it a mess, never pay rent and nick everything as they leave!
In this case, I agree it appears it's down to the LL to prove loss, but making incorrect sweeping statements isn't helping.0 -
How do I get my deposit ID, if I cant find it please?0
-
Reading through the Q+A it says - The deposit ID is the 8 digit identifying reference number given to the agent/landlord and tenant when a deposit is successfully submitted. The deposit ID can be found on the Deposit Submission Confirmation that was sent to you when your deposit was submitted and will never change. If misplaced a reminder can be requested from your agent/landlord.
Repayment ID's are unique 5 digit numbers issued by us to the agent/landlord and lead/sole tenant. These are unique to each party and should be kept confidential at all times. You will need your repayment ID at the end of the tenancy to reclaim your deposit.
end.
So do I ask my old agent for my deposit ID? Thats what it says "If misplaced a reminder can be requested from your agent/landlord."0 -
Yes send them a letter requesting the details of the deposit protection scheme.Changing the world, one sarcastic comment at a time.0

You should have got a letter or email from them.
Good luck with the landlord, my last landlord wouldn't agree to DPS unless I paid pre existing damages too, even when I put it as the disputed amount, 4 months later and the threat of court they gave in, they would have looked the greedy pig in trough they were in public, hang in there.
A lot of greedy landlord's out there who see the deposit as extra money for them to dip into, DPS was long overdue they need to take the picture evidence before you move in rather than make stuff up.0 -

LL should have given you the details after he protected your deposit, at the beginning of your tenancy. It would be a letter from the chosen scheme which has your deposit ID number on, and a pile of small-print bumf known as the proscribed [sp?] information.
With any luck, you'll have filed it with your AST paperwork?0
