Amazon Prime Misleading Delivery Lead Times

Hi everyone,

Apologies if this has already been posted elsewhere - I searched the forum but couldn't find anything regarding this - but has anyone noticed that Amazon has been giving misleading delivery lead times to Prime members for a while?

I have a membership which I was happy to pay for as the next day delivery service was very handy, however over the past 8 weeks or so the search results page has been giving a different delivery date to the product page.

For example I just logged in and searched 'lawnmower' - the results page was full of items which said 'Get it Saturday' then when I clicked into any of the product pages to view the description it said 'Order in the next 71 hours to get it Monday'. When I go to checkout the delivery date is Monday as it stated on the product page.

I reported it to them almost two months ago and they agreed it was misleading and in fact the dates shown on the search results pages were correct and available for those items, but because the order confirmation after checkout has the wrong date they will deliver it as per the date on the order and not before. The told me they would raise it with the technical team because it was a glitch in the system. I hadn't received a response so chased them a fortnight ago and have still not heard anything from Amazon.

I pointed the issue out to a friend with Prime who checked it on her account and though she hadn't noticed it herself before today, it gave her the same results.

I thought I would mention it on here as I know they're already on the MSE radar due to Prime membership charges, but I'd like to take the complaint further with them so that they hurry up and fix it, as I'm sure there are lots of other frustrated customers who are Prime members and experiencing the same issue. x

    Happened to me too.
Baby milk showed as "next day" miraculously changed to 48 hrs at checkout.
Worse still, a hose I was looking at had a four day lead time UNTIL I added two other items, then they were all next day.
    Smells fishy.

It depends on the item, and address.

I order some nespresso cartridges with Amazon vouchers for work. If I order friday to have them delivered to my home address they come next day with any carrier except Amazon Logistics (They are REALLY bad) but my work address it defaults to the next working day ie monday.

So it does depend on the item, its location, your location and the carriers they use.

It's interesting that you've both had issues that show it's not straightforward next day as it says in the search results. I'll have to check it on different addresses - I haven't tested to see if that makes a difference to the lead time, but I'll try to order something tonight and check it out :)

Well, just had another issue. Baby milk ordered late Thursday night (guaranteed Saturday delivery) - I've now been advised via a sparsely worded email that the delivery will take another "1-2 business days". What the hell am I paying for prime for?

If it is a small item Amazon Prime does seem to use Royal Mail so very rarely 'next day'. Ordered a PS4 game on 30th April. Email said 'estimated delivery 1st May' Still waiting! It appears that only larger courier delivered items are next day.

I contacted Amazon again today for an update and they confirmed that it is a glitch in their system rather than being anything to do with my delivery location or the type of item I'm ordering. I've been advised to get in touch next week if I still haven't received a response and they will chase the request that was sent to the technical team.

Depends where you live, I've not had a single prime item big or small not delivered by Amazon Logistics for at least 18 months now. However we were one of the earlier areas to get Amazon Logistics when they used to be known as APLE.

ALL of Amazon's 'estimated delivery dates' are wildly inaccurate - although, to be fair, they do usually, in my experience, tend to err on the side of pessimism. On many occasions I have had an item sitting safely in my house with my order page showing an estimated delivery range all of which is some days in the future.

Basically on the product page it will show 'Order before...' if there is any addresses that can still receive the delivery within the time stated.

It's not until you confirm which address and delivery method you are using that their systems will draw all information together and provide you accurate estimated delivery date.

The date on the product page should be used as a guide only and double check what they delivery date is on the review your order page.

It's annoying but that is the reason for it!

I've had no issues with Amazon prime as of yet. Usually If I order the item before 10am, I get it next working day
