My question is, if I then pay it off immediately online, will I avoid the interest for the rest of the month?
    In short, yes.

When I was using mine in Greece this summer, ATM transactions took 3-4 days to hit the account, so copped for a few p interest each time (10p or so) - you need to wait until the ATM transaction is showing on your (online) statement before paying.

If you want to do this, make sure any balance outstanding is cleared before you go - payments go to 'last month' before 'this month'.

It will depend on how sophisticated a new lender's scoring systems are. Some will regard cash advances as important and other will not be bothered at all. As has also been noted above, not every card operator reports cash advances back either.

Whereas it could have a negative impact I think managing your credit and paying on time is much more important.
