Gas Meter - Whose Responsibility

I wonder if anyone can help. I am in the middle of having an extension built and they are getting close to "Knocking through". The meter and incoming supply are on the wall which is to be demolished and I need to arrange to get it moved.
I phoned Transco who told me that it was no longer their responsibility and to call my gas supplier. I called them (powergen) and they tell me its nothing to do with them and to call Transco.
6 Phone Calls later - no further forward.
Can anyone help ????? Please ????????

Get your plumber to do it, and if any one mentions it blame the other one like they did

IT is your Gas suppliers responsibility.
This is the information I found:
I would like my gas meter moved. In July 2004 gas metering in the UK became subject to competition. For Transco, this means that its metering services have been completely separated from its transportation activities. Due to this, it is not possible for Transco to deal with your enquiry. You should contact your gas suppliers in the first instance to raise any queries regarding metering. The telephone number of your gas supplier will be printed on your gas bill.
If they do not offer any help, tell them you will change provider as they are unhelpful and not offereing you a level of service you expect!0 -
Has anyone ever got their meters moved for free ?0

I would say it would be Transco's responsibility as they are responsible for the supply of the gas and pipework, however your supplier is responsible for the meter itself. Get your plumber to run the pipework to the new position and then ask the supplier to change your meter, do not move your existing meter because if you break the security seals you could be leaving yourself open for a tampering claim, however this was rarely enforced when I worked for the local electric company.0

No! Costs depends on type of meter and where moving too. My other half paid £500 a couple years ago to have the meter moved from the cellar to the front of the house. You will need your own gas fitter present at the same time as the supplier won't touch anything in the house! According to Energywatch, the supplier is responsible for the meter when it's faulty.:idea:I got an idea, an idea so smart my head would explode if I even began to know what I was talking about:idea:0 -

As per my previous post the regs changed in 2004. Transco are no longer responsible.
They however are one of the contractors that can do the work. It is the suppliers responsibility to advise who to contact.
If the supplier fails to advise or help I would take the matter up with energy watch.0 -
Powergen phoned me this morning to advise that they want Transco to do the work and gave me a number to contact them on. I rang Transco and they are sending me out a "pack". Thanks for all your help - so best guess is about £500????0

mine was done this morning £323, moved from garage to outside wall (back to back) very nice workmen and a gas engineer to reconnect and test everything (cooker, boiler) as a lot of my drive had to be dug up for them to relocate the gas someone will be back tomorrow to fill and tarmac the drive all included in the price,
my application form for the move was sent in on the 18/03/05 and today was the earliest they could do it,you apply to transco and then fulcrum connections arrange the date. We can now get on with the garage convertion. Good luck. (first post)0
