Vacuum travel bags

Anyone use them ?
There's different types I see...ones that use a pump like these http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Vacuum-Storage-Bags-x3-Travel-Pack-Mega-Quality-Space-Saver-Storage-Bag-UNIQUE-/371316100076?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_3&hash=item56742a0bec
and ones you roll to push the air out like these http://www.argos.co.uk/static/Product/partNumber/8754774.htm
.
I've used the ones you use with a vacuum cleaner but not the travel variety.
Looks like it could be a good way to maximise the space in a cabin sized case and avoid paying hold charges.
Any thoughts ?

I've used the roll up kind. They work well to reduce the space taken up so more stuff can fit in the case, but then you need to be extra careful about the weight and everything tends to creaseEverything will be alright in the end so, if it’s not yet alright, it means it’s not yet the endQuidquid Latine dictum sit altum videtur0

I'll point my daughters in the direction of those
Although I suspect they'll do little to minimise the space taken by 6 pairs of shoes, a hair straightener/dryer (hotel ones are an unknown quantity apparently) and about half the inventory of the local Boots make-up department
Change is inevitable, except from a vending machine.0 -
We've used the roll up ones for camping - the other good point there is that if you keep them sealed they stop the clothes etc getting damp which is otherwise inevitable in UK weather conditions!Adventure before Dementia!0

Or do as I do when travelling back from the USA and just have a word with one of the housekeeping staff.
I've never yet had them refusing to let me borrow their vacuum cleaner for a few minutes.0 -
Tough audience...PeacefulWaters wrote: »Don't forget to pack the vacuum cleaner to make them effective on the return trip ...0 -
I was given some Packmate roll-up ones, absolutely love them
No pump or vacuum required. Now free from the incompetence of vodafail0
