Thank you. My dear mother passed away peacefully, early this morning. She was admitted to hospital 9 days ago.

So sorry to hear this sad news.

As already said you will now get Carer's Allowance for another 8 weeks once they know what has happened. This will mean that you can grieve and sort things out in the immediate future without worrying about claiming other benefits.

There is a very useful forum on here about bereavement so do use it if you have any questions.

Thank you. Of course I can't think very clearly just now, it's one day at a time, and try not to falter. The eight week breather space is very welcome, hopefully that will see me over immediate responsibilities. This is the nightmare I had hoped against hope would not happen - then it happened.

I must save all this good advice for later on and let's hope i can pick up suitable employment to keep my state pension going. But soon pressing on me will be the inevitable duties for when someone sadly passes away.

    Thanks again.

Thanks. Am apprehensive of everything at the moment - like the walls are closing in - this forum has given me some desperately needed peace of mind. Been caring for my nearly 90 year old mum since her husband passed away about two years ago. She was in a very weakened state and unable to cope, so we worked together as a team eventually, to sort everything out.

She grew stronger, healthier, more self-confident, then a little more than a week ago she was struck down by a late appendicitis. At first we had no idea of what was going on, was this an ulcer, violent indigestion 'reflux', gall stones? But it was soon diagnosed and an antibiotic treatment was given, which didn't stop the infection spreading. She refused anaesthetic (surgery) because her doctor had told her a decade ago that elderly people often do not survive anaesthetics, which is true. But the medication did nothing. I have never seen anyone deteriorate so rapidly in front of my eyes, and I standing helplessly by, after all that we had been through together so very recently. The hospital is now expecting her to pass away at any moment. Last Thursday she was in her kitchen baking cakes.

Shock, disbelief. This was my mum.

Was a supply teacher before I became a carer. Have by no means come to terms with the tragedy which has overtaken us :-|

I'm sorry you are going through such a difficult time. Sending a hug from one carer to another.
The are also other forums like carers UK or carers org which can offer done support.

Mum passed away - peacefully on the last day, that at least was a blessing.

Thanks to all for everything - sincere thanks.

I am so sorry for your loss, losing a parent is hard, no matter how old we/they are.
